The New Mississippi River Bridge project is a four-year construction project to build a cable-stayed bridge across the Mississippi River between downtown St. Louis and St. Clair County, Illinois. This new bridge will move Interstate 70 off the Poplar Street Bridge (which currently carries three interstates and is the only interstate bridge into downtown St. Louis).

The main span has been under construction since February 2010 and should be open in early 2014.. The new bridge will look something like this:

The following pages will discuss the current plans for the project and will provide information on the work that has already been completed and the work that can be expected as the bridge construction continues until 2014.
