From
30+ to 15 to 6...
And, Finally, THE Design Is Chosen
For 18
months, from February 2000 until July 2001, the Illinois and
Missouri Departments of Transportation worked with citizens
and officials from throughout the St. Louis region to identify
a world-class design for a new Mississippi River Bridge north
of downtown.
The
current re-evaluation process is taking another look at the
bridge design to see if cost reductions can be realized
while maintaining its capacity, safety, and adequacy.
The resulting structure will remain a cable stayed design
and will be a striking presence on the Mississippi River.
